March 2020
The month the world stopped
In mid-March I spent three days of my spring break in Los Angeles, CA. Surrounding the slowly emptying city were signs instructing visitors and residents to wash hands. There were no dine-in options, and many stores were closed. Along the beach, there was no spring break rush and skateboarders lit up the nearby parks all night.
With the pivot to online education, campus emptied and students like myself returned home. Most time spent in my room, working on schoolwork, attending online classes, and doing everything to distract myself from the uncertainty and sadness which hangs in the air. I wanted to capture the stiffness and the feeling of being “stuck” in this composite.
Aside from my bedroom I spend time outdoors in the backyard or surrounding desert. My family plays video games to pass the time (we’re all getting quite good at Dr. Mario).
